Smart Signs Solutions nominated for the Young Technology Award 2009
From 18.45, the six promising young technology companies will present their business case in a short pitch. The jury then determines which company wins the award and takes the prize of 5,000 euros.
VLT-entrepreneur Maria Lijding is with her ‘Smart Signs Solutions‘
one of six finalists in the
Young Technology Award competition.
Maria Lijding started her company in November 2008. As the company name suggests, Smart Sign Solutions is all about signs and finding your way in buildings. Seems nothing special, right?
But, the signing and “wayfinding” is done in a whole new way:
it’s all personal!
New group off to a good start
Last Wednesday evening, Thursday and Friday, October 7/8/9, a new group of 25 VLT-entrepreneurs had a date with destiny… the stockmarket!?
In two days the group got lots of information to start their future as owners of a high-tech high-potential venture.
- On Thursday Pim Paffen, from CDC Nederland, explained the use of an assessment and a personal development plan in the personal development training. In the evening the VentureClass by Paula Englis was on the agenda.
- Saras Sarasvathy, Associate Professor (Darden Graduate Business School, University of Virginia, USA) was in action on Friday with “Strategy Process: Planning vs emergence” and “Equity ownership and control issues” as topics for the training. See Saras work on a short video.
According to some of the ‘fresh’ entrepreneurs the first days were “intense” and some “hard work” to begin with. But VLT made sure it was not without the necessary amount of food, fun & friends.
VentureLab on the move!
October 5th is a day to remember: VentureLab Twente will be moving to a new address!
The new (visiting) address will be:
Hengelosestraat 525-527
["The Corridor" building]
In the new housing VentureLab will have 8 rooms for VLT staff and participants to begin with. Two of these rooms (approx 80 m2) will be workplaces for VLT-entrepreneurs. We will also have the use of a large lecture / training space of 150 m2.
So, from October the 5th, we’d like to welcome all visitors to our new ‘headquarters’!
View the map of the location of the new address below (link).
Meet VentureLab Twente at the 'Bedrijvendagen 2009'
VentureLab Twente will be at the University of Twente Bedrijvendagen on September 30!
VentureLab will have a booth with Kennispark Twente at the information fair:
“The companies will set up their information booths at the information fair, which will be held in a large venue on the Ganzenveld. Recruiters can provide information on their companies and students will have the opportunity to meet companies and ask questions. The fair opens at 10:30 and closes at 17:00.The information fair also provides the opportunity for students to talk to the recruiters of companies in which they are interested. Because so many companies present themselves in one venue, the information fair is the place to be for students who want to learn more about the labour market or who are looking for internship opportunities, thesis projects or a job.” (www.bedrijvendagentwente.nl).
A new session of panel presentations
Yesterday, on September 24th in the afternoon, there was another successful session of panel presentations! An extensive number of entrepreneurs tried in one hour to convince the panel members of the value of their evolving business plan.

Like Jos Koenders, whose aim is to contribute in the ongoing battle against climate change, by using his innovation to save energy inside houses and offices. Or Dennis Doubovski who gave an insight in his effort to bring the world wide web on a higher level, this time by creating an innovative application to make life a lot easier for both – suppliers and buyers of products on the Internet.
The comments of the panels where ranging from cheerful curiosity, to (some) firm criticism… but, of course, all in a thoughtful effort to help the entrepreneurs on their way to success!
